Last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw kicked off with the unusual sight of Roman Reigns in street clothes, as opposed to his usual character’s ring attire.

He began to speak about the obligations and opportunities he’s had over his years in the company, and more specifically, his brief time as champion. Soon after, he got to the point of his message that would shock the WWE Universe:

“My real name is Joe and I’ve battled Leukemia for 11 years, and unfortunately it’s back.”

That one statement sent shockwaves through the arena in Providence, Rhode Island. Millions of “#ThankYouRoman” tweets began flowing in from around the world as fellow WWE superstars, athletes, fans, etc. showing their support for the now former Universal Champion.

Reigns was very clear in his announcement that “this is not a retirement speech”, and that he would be back as soon as he was able to.shield

As he exited the ring and made his way up the ramp, he was meet and embraced by his Shield brothers Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins, both visibly shaken up from the news.

The announcement also meant that Reign would have to relinquish his Universal Championship, and that he would be out of the title match at WWE’s Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia next month.

Until that match the title will remain vacated and the remaining two superstars, Braun Strowman and Brock Lesner, will face each other one-on-one to crown a new champion.

Regardless of any storylines or character feuds with Reigns, seemingly every WWE superstar former & current posted their support and love for the man behind the character.

We, along with everyone else, wish Roman Reigns the best towards overcoming this again, and returning to the ring as soon as he can!
