These AFC Teams Will Win Wild Card Spot

We’re just about four weeks from the end of the NFL season, and that means teams are trying to punch their ticket to the playoffs. Some have already won their division, some are trying to clinch the division, and others are fighting for those last wild card berths.

Currently the Chiefs, Patriots, Texans, and Steelers lead their divisions. The Patriots and Texans look as if they will finish as the division winners, as they each lead by three games with only four games left. The Chiefs only lead the Chargers by one game, but with the way things look, the team who doesn’t win the division looks like they will take the first wild card spot. The Steelers only lead the Ravens by half a game in the AFC North.

The biggest battle in the AFC is going to be for that last wild card spot. Right now, the Ravens have a one-game lead over the Dolphins, Colts, Broncos, and Titans. Here’s why each team does or doesn’t have a chance for that playoff spot.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens are riding behind Lamar Jackson since Joe Flacco suffered a hip injury. During that three-game span, the Ravens went 3-0 while beating the Bengals, Raiders, and Falcons. With Joe Flacco close to returning, a decision needs to be made on who will start. Will they give Flacco back the starting job or will they continue to start the 3-0 Jackson? Even though Jackson has won all three games, we’ve seen troubles concerning the Ravens. Jackson is only averaging 151 yards through the air and has thrown three interceptions and fumbled the ball five times in three games. The Ravens finish the season with games at the Chiefs, versus the Buccaneers, at the Chargers, and versus the Browns.

Prediction:  Chiefs L, Buccaneers W, Chargers L, Browns W

Final Record Prediction: 9-7

Miami Dolphins

In my opinion, the Dolphins haven’t really proved much, as their wins came against the Titans, Jets (twice), Raiders, Bears, and Bills. Two of their losses came against the Bengals and Lions. None of that matters if they can finish the season out strong. They have games versus the Patriots, at the Vikings, versus the Jaguars, and at the Bills.

Prediction: Patriots L, Vikings L, Jaguars W, Bills W

Final Record Prediction: 8-8

Indianapolis Colts

Despite last week’s loss to the Jaguars, the Colts have been on a hot streak, winning the five games prior. Eric Ebron has been a redzone threat we’ve never seen before. Andrew Luck should be in the discussion for MVP. The line has done 1000 percent better protecting Luck. The Colts scored 34.6 points per game during that five-game win streak. The Colts finish the season with games at the Texans, versus the Cowboys, versus the Giants, and at the Titans.

Prediction: Texans L, Cowboys L, Giants W, Titans W

Final Record Prediction: 8-8

Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos have been on a hot streak, winning their last three including wins against the Chargers and Steelers. Phillip Lindsay has emerged as a very talented and explosive running back and comes into this week ranked number four league-wide in rushing yards on the season. Keenum has done better at limiting turnovers as of late and will need to continue that if the Broncos want to make that surge into the playoffs. The bad news? The Broncos have lost Emmanuel Sanders for the season. Sanders tore his Achilles in practice Wednesday. The Broncos finish the season with one of the easier schedules with games at the 49ers, versus the Browns, at the Raiders, and versus the Chargers.

Prediction: 49ers W, Browns W, Raiders W, Chargers L

Final Record Prediction: 9-7

Tennessee Titans

The Titans have had their ups and downs this season, which correlates with the play of quarterback Marcus Mariota. One week he will look like a backup QB, and the next he may look like a number two draft pick. They’re are two upsides to this team though: they have a tough defense and they have found an emerging WR1 in Corey Davis. The Titans finish up the season with games versus the Jaguars, at the Giants, versus the Redskins, and versus the Colts.

Prediction: Jaguars L, Giants W, Redskins W, Colts L

Final Prediction Record: 8-8

Going off my predictions, both the Ravens and Broncos will finish the year out 9-7. The Ravens beat the Broncos 27-14 in Week 3 meaning that the Ravens would win the last wild card spot.*

*Assuming the Steelers at least finish the season out 2-2
