The fans play a huge role regarding which NBA players will start and play in the NBA All-Star game. In fact, fans account for 50% of the vote while the media and NBA players each account for 25%.
Here are the voting numbers from the fans that were just released on January 10th.
Starters will include the top two guards and top front court players from each conference. If voting ended today, starters from the West would be Stephen Curry, Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Paul George. Starters representing the East would be Kyrie Irving Dwyane Wade, Giannis Antetokoumpo, Kawhi Leonard, and Joel Embiid.
Do Derrick Rose, Luka Doncic, and Dwyane Wade deserve starting spots? Probably not, but they’ve been great for the NBA this year.
After suffering injury after injury, many thought Rose was on a steady downward slope. He’s playing his best basketball in years and true NBA fans will respect what he is accomplishing this season.
Luka Doncic is on target to be this year’s Rookie of the Year. He’s a guy that does it all for a team, and how can I not say something about that picture perfect step back? Doncic is quickly becoming a fan favorite around the league.
What can I say about Wade? It’s his farewell tour and what’s a better way to go out than suiting up as an All-Star starter for his last ride? Sure, others probably deserve this spot more, but the fans want Wade and I can’t really blame them.
Starters and captains will be revealed on January 24th while the reserves will be announced on the 31st. The NBA All-Star game will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina on February 17th, 2019 at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.
You have until January 21st before fan voting ends so let your voice be heard and vote here!
